FAQs

What sort of words can I put in a personalised word search print?

I aim to get up to 100 words and short phrases in each unique print but there may be a more appropriate number depending on the occasion - eg 75 for a 75th birthday present. The words can be about anything though they should be a maximum of 28 characters due to the size of grid normally used. If you have a longer phrase, I may be able to suggest a way to include it in the print.

A personalised word search is a unique way to commemorate a unique life full of people, events and experiences. Once you start writing the words down, others will probably come to you and it's amazing how many memories can be triggered by just a single word...

It can help to write the list over a few days or get family and friends to also add words to create a really meaningful piece. Many people set up facebook groups to involve other people in deciding which words to include.

Depending on the subject, some ideas could include:

  • Nicknames
  • Addresses
  • Birth date
  • School/College/University names
  • Profession(s)
  • Football/sport team(s)
  • Pets
  • Holidays
  • First date
  • Friends
  • Family members
  • Wedding date
  • Honeymoon location
  • Location of funny/significant/personal events
  • Music/songs/bands
  • Interests/hobbies
  • Skills
  • Films/TV programmes
  • Favourite foods/drinks

I can include numbers (eg. dates), foreign characters and punctuation (eg. '&') and have been asked to include a fair number of swear words and questionable words so don't hold back if that's what you'd like to include!

The majority of words will run horizontally (left to right) and vertically (top to bottom), and possibly a few diagonally (top left to bottom right) but I can also put some words backwards which makes them harder to find if requested.

Do you use software to create the word searches?

No. I pride myself on creating personal artwork by hand and offering a personal service which is reflected in the unanimously positive feedback I've received. Originally I used a pencil and squared paper, often erasing words and starting again but now do it manually on a computer. I am a qualified graphic designer and take real pride in the quality of my work. I see it as a personal challenge to get all the words in, crossing over as many other words as possible!

How long does it take to produce a personalised word search print?

As each piece is created by hand, depending on the size of the print and the words to include, I normally need 2-3 weeks to produce the finished piece. This includes working with you on the words to include.

If you require it sooner, depending how busy I am, I'll do whatever I can!

I have managed to deliver framed prints just 4 days after accepting an order and confirming the words.

What's the difference between a giclée print and a silkscreen print?

Giclée printing refers to a high-resolution digital print using archival inks and archival paper. If requested, highlighted keywords are then silkscreen printed onto the print my hand.

Silkscreen printing is a method of printing by hand where a flat piece of photosensitized silk on a frame is exposed to light to create a stencil. This is put on a flat 'bed' and ink is then pushed through this onto the paper using a squeegee.

How much is postage?

I own one of your prints and would like to know if I've found all the words. Are you able to send me a list?

Sure! If you would like to know the words hidden within a print, please call me or email me, including the name and edition number of the print(s) you own and I'll send you the list!

My pen's run out! Where can I get another one?

If your pen has run out of ink, you can use any 'dry wipe' pen to circle the words. If you'd like me to send you one, please email me your name, address and the name and edition number of the print(s) you own and I'll be happy to send you a replacement at no charge.

I own a gallery, shop or online outlet and am interested in selling your work. How do you choose your outlets?
